Let’s Draft Oprah!

On New Year’s Eve, I was with a friend, lamenting the events of the past year as so many of us were doing.  Did you notice?  On FB this year’s “happy new year’s” posts were often followed by wishes for better days ahead, a happier 2018, relief that 2017 was going and don’t let the door hit you on your way out, etc.  So in this spirit I was in despair, saying to my friend that even if the Democrats re-take Congress in 2018, and the Presidency in 2020, will everything just re-set?  What will it take to heal the divisiveness, the vitriol, the embarrassment on the world stage?  Will we ever live up to the ideals of democracy and freedom we were taught as children?  I had to conclude, no, I don’t think we will.

Then the next day, I got an idea:  let’s draft Oprah Winfrey to run for President!

The answer to your first question is, yes, I’m serious.  Think about it:  we live in a new cultural paradigm.  The only qualification now for elected office is celebrity.  Kim Kardashian stands a better chance of being elected president than Elizabeth Warren.  Why?  Because she’s more famous.  So let’s stop waiting for narcissistic rich white men to volunteer for the job.  We’ve seen how that goes.  Let’s find someone who will make America kind again.  Let’s draft Oprah.

Stay tuned.  More later.
